“Tip length and diameter play a major role in effective interaction with the targeted tissue and procedure.  One of my favorite tips is the MT4 sapphire tip.  This (tapered) tip focuses the energy from a 750 micron diameter to a 400 micron diameter.  By doing this, we get an efficient, precise cut.   I call it my laser scalpel. I especially like this tip when removing fibromas or contouring gingival tissue for esthetic procedures.  It facilitates quick, clean removal of tissue.
